Bob Hick – Director and Site Operations Manager

Bob Hick

Bob Hick has over fifty years’ experience in the Earthmoving Industry and is skilled in all aspects of land development, and is innovative on site, creating a high level of efficiency on all contracts.

Bob has managed projects in full compliance with budget, schedule and all quality requirements.

Bob thrives on the more challenging contracts keeping the company at the forefront of the Earthmoving Industry, and he enjoys being on the ground and taking a ‘hands-on’ management approach.

Silt Control – Bob has been involved in modern day silt control since it was first required in the 1980’s. Bob developed the Pulley system on the T-Bar floats, and also the Fore-bays on ponds. All Silt Control by Bob Hick Earthmoving conforms to TP90 specifications.

Water Volume Control – Bob has a vast experience on the placement of ponds, contaminated cut-offs and clear-water drains, and he gives absolute priority to ensure that all sites have customised controls in place, to cope with any adverse weather events.


Jacob Russell – Contract Manager

Bob Hick Earthmoving LtdJacob has over a decade of experience operating Earthmoving machinery and an extensive knowledge of all plant and their operational capacity.

He also has thorough mechanical knowledge and workshop experience, and is conversant with best practice in Health & Safety, record keeping, and H & S Audits.

As Contract Manager Jacob is mainstay with Bob Hick, ensuring Site Operations have continuity, are focused and achieve maximum production at all times.

Jacob also has a strong aptitude for modern technology, and he easily oversees use of our innovative GPS Systems which are installed in machines used for our finishing sub-grades. Jacob receives on-going training from Synergy Positioning Systems and our own Surveyor – Gavin Greenhalgh.

He has great communication skills with clients, suppliers, subcontractors and staff.

Jacob has in depth knowledge of silt control measures.

Jacob holds Site Safe Gold Card, 1st Aid Certificate and WTR.

Jacob attended a staff Supervision Training programme in Oct 2012.

During his employment with Bob Hick Earthmoving Jacob has gained technical skills in the following areas:-

Matthew Russell – Workshop Manager and ‘Fast Response’ Mechanic

mrussellMatthew joined Bob Hick Earthmoving in 2004, and has 9 years’ experience working on site, operating a variety of earthmoving plant, and gaining valuable workshop experience since then.

Matthew is an important member of our team behind the scenes, where he divides his time between managing the on-site Workshop and crew, and also working as our key ‘fast response’ mechanic.

Matthew‘s ability to prioritise ensures any mechanical issues or general maintenance and repairs are resolved quickly and efficiently, importantly keeping site production targets on track.  Major repairs are completed through the winter months.

In 2011 Matthew was responsible for overseeing the installation of our large on-site maintenance and repairs workshop.

Matthew also holds regular Workshop Toolboxes and has a strong focus on Health and Safety.

Matthew has excellent communication skills, and he has developed good working relationships with our numerous suppliers.

Matthew holds a Site Safe Gold Card, 1st Aid Certificate, Dangerous Goods Certificate, Safety at Heights & Harness Certificate, Forklift Certificate and WTR,.

During winter 2010, Matthew was employed at a West Coast Coalmine, where he was maintaining a fleet including D/11 Bulldozers, 125 Tonne Hitachi Excavators and a 475 model Komatsu Bulldozer

Matthew attended a staff Supervision Training Programme in October 2012


Caroline Whitehead – Director & Administration

Caroline Whitehead

Caroline has a keen interest in developing Management Systems and creating System Tools as required.

Caroline maintains a close interest in all aspects of Health & Safety, and working with senior staff Caroline designed practical weekly Tool-Box formats for On-site and Workshop Tool-Boxes.

Caroline has a good knowledge of New Zealand’s native plant species and appreciates the pleasing quality of the extensive landscaping present on our contracts.

Caroline has drawn on the extensive history of Bob Hick Earthmoving to provide a balanced overview of past and present contracts, taking a leading role in the creation of our website.


 Mary Brookes – Administration Solutions

Bob Hick Earthmoving LtdMary started with Bob Hick Earthmoving in 2011 and handles the administration, providing a seamless operation for our clients and staff.  Mary has a solid grasp on administration and also understands the Earthmoving Industry.

Mary provides a large part of our pre-construction preparations this allows the projects to begin in a efficient manner as well as assisting with any ongoing contract administration.

Mary enjoys the great photographic opportunities of the changing landscape of each contract.  Mary is also responsible for creating our website and keeping information and photographs up to date.
